Biographie

Based in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal, Marine Chavet is a queer French interdisciplinary artist.

Her practice was initially influenced by a sensitivity to images. She holds two masters, one in graphic design (École La Martinière-Diderot - Lyon, France) and one in visual arts (Jean Monnet University - Saint-Étienne, France).

In 2014, she met Catherine Contour, an artist and choreographer working with hypnosis. Chavet participated to several Contour’s workshops entitled "transmission of the hypnotic tool" and has since devoted herself to this technique. Chavet completed her hypnotherapy training at the École de Formation Professionnelle en Hypnotisme du Québec (EFPHQ). From then on, she places hypnosis at the heart of her artistic approach.

Chavet maintains a fascination with storytelling, trance states and the transformative power of speech. She focuses her research on collective and individual traumas, on grieving and healing processes. In her practice, benevolence is an act of resistance in which art and fiction are the catalyst.

Chavet’s work begins in text, woven from hypnotic stories, and is later combined with other media forms. She broadens the field of her practice according to artistic collaborations with musicians, performers and dancers. Her approach integrates elements of sound, voice, performance, image and video.
